Pastor's Thoughts

Satan is a Deceiver

Satan is a deceiver.  He is the father of all lies.  1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober-minded; be watchful.  Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.  Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.”  Lions do not strike the strongest.  They watch closely and often attack the weak, the lame and the sick.  We must be on guard for the attacks of Satan, yet never fear him, because “he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Satan attacked in the garden.  Speaking to Eve, he convinced her to do exactly what God had commanded her not to do.  He did this in two deceiving ways.  First, he convinced her that there would be no consequence for her sin.  In Genesis 3:4 it says, “For the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die.’”  Satan is still in that business today!  There are multiple warnings in Scripture concerning sin.  God condemns sin of every sort from Genesis to Revelation.  He makes it very clear that it is against his character and it will not go unpunished.  However, we can still feed into the lie that there are no consequences.  If you’re in habitual sin today, don’t let Satan deceive you.  Numbers 32:23 says, “But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.”

Secondly, Satan will deceive you into thinking that God’s way is not best.  In Genesis 3:5 says, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God.”  This was a direct lie.  For since the Fall the image of God in us has been defaced, and we have never been less like God.

Don’t fall for Satan’s tricks.  Sin is real and it carries real consequences.  And God’s way is always best!
