What is
fellowship?
We often use the word to describe a casual gathering of believers. We call meals fellowships or consider the fellowship of a worship service. But, ultimately fellowship is not tied to any particular event. In the biblical sense, fellowship is a heart issue. In Acts 2, fellowship (koinonia) refers to participation or sharing. It is a sharing of laughter, sharing of material goods, sharing of burdens, sharing of tears, sharing of food, and sharing of mind and Spirit. It’s impossible to fellowship if you’re not contributing and if you’re not sharing. It should be experienced, felt and portrayed in every program and activity of the church. It is a way of life for believers who desire to be in one another’s company, and share with one another. Sometimes our sharing involves things physical as we keep watch of those in the family. Sometimes our sharing is spiritual so that we lift up a brother or share a prayer concern with a sister. We fellowship and share, because we’re all in the same family. And ultimately we’re all in the same family because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Thank God He has adopted us all as sons and daughters. I hope you come tonight to have fellowship with the rest of the body of Christ. Bring a dish, eat, talk and enjoy the company of your brothers and sisters. This may be a great opportunity to extend your kindness to church visitors and welcome new members into the body. It’s sure to be a blessed time |
