This was an outline given to me by a church member. I thought it had some very valid points and wanted to share it with you as well. How to Kill a Church without Trying
Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Rather we are to exhort one another, and so much more as the Day approaches. It’s hard to exhort (urge, encourage, push) one another from the couch, the boat or the bed.
The program of the church may refer to Children, Seniors Citizens, Youth, and Sunday School. But, more specifically, the program of the church is discipleship and evangelism. If you couldn’t care less about either one, then you’re certainly not looking for a New Testament church.
When we examine a church, we realize that there are needs. It’s never perfect. The needs are spiritual, financial, physical, organizational, etc. When we decide we will not contribute to any need whatsoever, particularly being disobedient to the command to give back to God, then we’re likely causing more problems than we’re solving.
Ephesians 4:32 commands us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, and forgiving, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven us. Our aim ought to be building up the body of Christ, loving one another, and caring.
Church membership is important. It identifies us with a local body of believers. It is a commitment. It is accountability. It is what God has called us to do. So, when we’re disobedient to join a group of believers, we’re not allowing God to use the gifts and talents He has provided. |
